NFC North Draft Grades

Detroit Lions –

First Pick- T.J Hockenson, TE, Iowa Grade: C. T.J Hockenson is a great player, and was my #1 TE on the board, but I also don’t value the TE as high as others do. All the top TE’s in the NFL over the last 10 years+ have came from Day 2 or Day 3 of the NFL Draft. So I see this as a huge reach. The last time a TE went in the top 10 of the NFL Draft it was Eric Ebron. He was drafted by the Lions as well, and we all saw how well that worked out.

Best Pick- Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn ST Grade: A. Amani is one of the best press corners coming out and was thought to be a early round 2 pick. The Lions were able to steal him 5th round at pick 146. He will be a great corner on the other side of Darius Slay. He will be a plug and play corner from day 1.

Biggest Reach- Jahlani Tavai LB, Hawaii Grade: D. Jahlani was a fast riser and was thought to go around mid to late Round 3. The Lions reached for him with pick 43 overall. Jahlani recorded 82 Tackles and 2 sacks his senior season.

Lions overall Grade: C-

Chicago Bears

First Pick- David Montgomery RB, Iowa St Grade: B. With the Bears trading away Jordan Howard to the Eagles, they go out and draft the RB that would fit Matt Hagy’s offense. David is a natural pass catcher with 71 catches in college. He will be a solid day 1 contributor.

Best Pick- Riley Ridley WR, Georgia Grade: B. The Chicago Bears needed an upgrade at WR behind Allen Robinson. Riley Ridley, the brother of Calvin Ridley, who was a 1st round pick last year, is consider to be one of the best route runners in this draft.

Biggest Reach- Duke Shelley CB Kansas St Grade: D. Duke an under sized corner at 5’9 180 LB. Most draft “experts” had him as a late day 3 or UDFA player.

Overall Grade: D+

Green Bay Packers

First Round Picks- Rashan Gary LB, Michigan Grade: C+. Darnell Savage Jr S, Maryland Grade:B. With the Packers 2 1st round picks they go defense heavy again. Many twitter draft analysts don’t like Gary because of his senior tape. Gary is a boom or bust type of player who deserved to go in the first round. Darnell was another late riser. He will be a day one starter for the packers and is my DROY prediction winner.

Best Pick- Kingsley Keke DL, Texas A&M Grade: B. Kingsley will automatically be a rotation piece for the Packers defensive line. He’s a great run suffer who will help the Packers, who needed run defense.

Biggest Reach- Ka’Dar Hollman CB, Toledo Grade: D. Ka’Dar will be fighting all off season to make the Packers 53 man roster and to be their 5th CB. He will have to fight Tony Brown, an UDFA from last year, who has shown a lot of potential.

Overall Grade: B-

Minnesota Vikings

First Pick- Garrett Bradbury C, NCST Grade: A. Garrett was the best interior OL in the draft and one of the Vikings biggest needs. He will be the Vikings starting center when the season begins.

Best Pick- Dru Samia OG, Oklahoma, Grade: A. Dru was predicted to be a early to mid round 2 pick and was selected with the 144th pick, in the 4th round. Dru will be other much needed OL help and day one stater for the Vikings.

Biggest Reach- Honestly the Vikings didn’t have a reach in this whole draft. They are probably right behind the New England Patriots as having had one of the best drafts this year.

Overall Grade: A
